pd-comport software package provides Pd object for reading and writing to serial ports, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install pd-comport
pd-comport is installed in your system.
Make ensure the pd-comport package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep pd-comport *
You will get with pd-comport package name, version, architecture and description in a table
